Why Would I Want a Wii?

Why would I want one?

The true success of the Wii has been its ability to lure people that are not traditionally gamers into playing; people who previously wouldn't have wanted a console are now buying them in droves thanks to the brilliant control system and simple, fun and inclusive games that are available. People that may have been gamers in the past are also being lured back to gaming – parents that played games themselves in their youth are now joining in with their kids and then starting to buy games for themselves – and I speak from personal experience! There is something intuitively 'right' about the Wii control system that to many people that makes it easy to pick up and soon be playing. As with all things, there's still plenty of challenge left in mastering it to keep you going. I understand that die-hard gamers may not really get on with it (and lots of them would rather have a keyboard / mouse interface like in the old days of Quake on the PC) – but then they will probably buy Xbox 360s and PS3s. More casual gamers are flocking to the Wii, because of what it is and lets face it, because it is approximately half the price of a PS3 – and it is said that Nintendo actually make a profit on each console sold, which is likely not the case for the Xbox 360 and PS3 according to industry pundits. Well done Nintendo!
