Wii Rechargeable Batteries
What are Wii Rechargeable Batteries?
Batteries. That you can recharge.
Either standard AA rechargeable ones (that you can use in any battery
operated device that you might have) or ones specific for the Wii and
Wii Remote.
Why would I want then?
Well, it can't have escaped your
attention that the Wii Remote does tend to have a bit
of a battery habit ('so I do batteries now and then..its all right, I
can handle it') and gets through them at a prodigious rate. It also
can't have escaped your notice that conventional alkaline batteries
are not cheap and could add an expensive little running cost to
your Wii gaming. Rechargeable batteries are the answer to your
wallet's prayers, especially at the great prices we have! There are a
number of options for you to consider:
Standard AA rechargeable batteries.
These can be used in your Wii Remote or any other battery powered
device you may have, ans should last for 1000 charges at least. It
makes sense to buy several, so you can have a least one spare set
recharged and ready to go – there's nothing worse than having
to abandon Link in Zelda just when you thought you were going great
guns. Just watch you have enough so that when they get pinched for
clocks/radios/toys etc. you're not left high and dry. Choosing them
is easy; scan the range we have and pick to suit. Capacity is
measured in mAh (milliamp hours) – the bigger the number, the
longer they should last. I use 2500 – 2900mAh batteries myself
and get a good life out of them. Another possibility is the new
technology rechargeable batteries we have. Conventional rechargeable
batteries lose charge slowly when in storage, so if you charge them
up and leave them for ages they might not last as well as you expect
when you come to use them, The new technology batteries keep 90% of
their charge when stored; Ideal if you don't play that often and may
want to have some ready to go sitting in a drawer! Which ever you
choose, don't forget you'll need a battery charger too.
The alternative is to use the new
specific Wii remote batteries that are available. These replace the
existing Wii Remote battery compartment cover with a combined battery
and cover. They usually also come complete with recharging stand for
the Wii Remote – just pop it in the stand when you are done
playing and it'll be charged up ready to go! Neat and convenient;
maybe not as flexible as the separate battery option.
If you buy anything for your Wii, get
some rechargeable batteries – 1000 x the cost of a standard
disposable battery (maybe £50 or so) puts the few pounds they
cost into perspective.
If the potential cost savings aren't
enough to sway you – think about the planet. Using
rechargeable batteries is a much more eco-friendly way of running any
battery powered device – less resources to make them, less to
be recycled afterwards (you do recycle your batteries, don't you?).
